2009 News Events

Saturday, December 19, 2009 - Santa's Toy Run
The Annual Christmas Toy Run is sponsored each year by the Las Vegas Cruisin' Association. This is a chance for all car clubs to be charitable to underpriviledged children. We met at 11:00am at Mystic Lodge Casino, 920 S. Boulder Hwy (1 mile south of 215/Lake Mead Dr) in Henderson for the annual "Christmas Toy Run" with Santa. We brought unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 4 to 13. From there we followed Santa's sleigh a few blocks to Robert Taylor Elementary School, 144 Westminster Way (off North Major Ave), Henderson, NV 89015. There we again parked together and brought our toys inside where Santa and his helpers handed them out at noon to all the underpriviledged kids at the school. There are many deserving children, and as usual we had an excellent turnout for this event. See the pics...

There was also a charity auction to raise money for the benefit of the Nevada Diabetes Association. The Holiday dinner is for active (dues paying) club members, and invitations were sent out to everyone on our current membership list. Charleston is a charming log-built hotel nestled in Kyle Canyon. It is atmospherically a world away from the heat and traffic of Las Vegas. Fri-Sun, May 22-24 - 24 Hours of LeMons
Several Ferrari Club Members competed in the 24 Hours of LeMons. Conceived in 2006 in mock homage to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, the LeMons is likewise a marathon of man and machine. But unlike the gentlemanly Gallic race, LeMons is a 24-hour brawl and, more defining, nice cars are not welcome. The rules say that teams can spend no more than $500 on their vehicles before adding safety gear. FCA Members Chris Willett of the Sin City Lemons Team drove a white Volkswagen Jetta this year. Gordon Tronson, Jeff Wenger, and Chris Tromba of the Down Under Team drove a black 1995 Dodge Stealth. For more information see www.24hoursoflemons.com. See the pics...

Sat - March 7, 2009 - Drive to Oatman, Arizona
Jackass Run to Oatman, Arizona, an authentic old western town. We departed from Cars and Coffee at 11:00AM, and were joined by other car clubs. We invited the Porsche, Viper and Lotus clubs to join us. Oatman, AZ has burros roaming the streets and gunfights staged on weekends, taking us back to the 1915 era old west. The burros are tame and can be hand fed. Today Oatman is a popular tourist attraction that draws visitors from all over the world. Oatman, AZ is located on historic Route 66. We had lunch at the Oatman Hotel. The Oatman Hotel was built in 1902, it is the oldest two-story adobe structure in Mojave County and has housed many miners, movie stars, politicians and other scoundrels. The town was used as the location for several movies such as How The West Was Won, Foxfire and Edge of Eternity. Clark Gable and Carol Lombard honeymooned at the Oatman Hotel March 18, 1939. Their honeymoon suite is still one of the major attractions at the Oatman Hotel. Gable returned there often to play poker with the local miners and enjoy the solitude of the desert. There are plenty of shopping opportunities in Oatman. Many of the shopkeepers make their own products and obtain other rare and interesting items from far and near. There are many handmade leather goods, handmade Indian jewelry and excellent knives sold right from the wooden sidewalks running the length of the town. Many thanks to Chris Tromba for arranging this event. See the pics...
