2007 News Events

Sat - Dec 15, 2007 - SSC Test Drives
The SSC Ultimate Aero just introduced from www.shelbysupercars.com is now officially the fastest production car in the world, faster than the McLaren F1, Koenigsegg, and Bugatti Veyron. With 1183 Horsepower at the wheels from a twin turbo V8 it is now officially the fastest at 256.19 MPH. MotorCars of Las Vegas has the car shown here and was taking Ferrari Club members out for test drives accompanied by company founder and owner Jerod Shelby. No relation to Carroll, Jerod chose to keep the Aero under the car industry's radar for the last couple years because of problems he witnessed with other manufacturer's premature claims. "Every six months, you see another car company claiming to have the latest and greatest 200-plus mph car, when in actuality what they have is a computer drawing and a virtual idea of how the car will run. These companies start the buzz, try to live up to the hype, and then end up falling short of their expectations. Our philosophy was to keep everything quiet and not introduce the car until it was completed, tested, design and performance proven and ready to take orders. And here we are." Shelby commented. Sat - Dec 15, 2007 - Santa's Toy Run
The Annual Christmas Toy Run is sponsored each year by the non-profit Las Vegas Cruisin' Association. This was a chance for all car clubs to be charitable to underpriviledged children. We met at 11:00 at Charlie Holder's Casino, 920 S. Boulder Hwy / Palo Verde Drive in Henderson for the annual "Christmas Toy Run" with Santa. We met at the casino, and then drove together for about a mile to Robert Taylor Elementary School, 144 Westminster Way (off North Major Ave), Henderson, NV 89015. There we all parked together. This year an ultralite took aerial photos of our cars from above. We brought unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 4 to 13 that Santa handed out at noon to all the underpriviledged kids at the school. There were many deserving children and we had an excellent turnout. Many thanks to everyone who participated! See the pics...

Exactly 75 participants from the Porsche Club, Ferrari Club, Italian Auto Club, Corvette Club, BMW Club, Mercedes Club, Mini Club, Mustang Club, Lotus Car Club, Viper Club, and British Auto Club as well as numerous independent entries all participated in the 6th annual rally. This year we also had a number of other car clubs join us. Additional cars joined us after the rally at the finish. We started at Norm Baker Motor Company, the Lotus Dealer at 6175 W. Sahara Avenue, just west of Jones, who sponsored our event again this year. Registration was at 9:00, and the first car out departed at 10:00. This was a fun and easy scavenger hunt gimmick rally. Car clubs needed at least three cars per marque to qualify for the manufacturer's trophy. Participants stayed for lunch at the beautiful finish location of Tuscany Golf Course and ordered off the menu. We shared the course with the Playboy Club Casino Golf Tournament so their were plenty of playmates and bunnies on the course in addition to our photographer's models. This was a fun and easy rally. The entry fee paid for trophies, t-shirts while they lasted, liquid refreshments at the finish, professional bikini models for photos by the cars, with all other proceeds going to charity. This year over $500.00 was raised for the benefit of the Nevada Diabetes Association. Some of us brought a picnic lunch basket and tailgated on the lush grounds. Many thanks to our organizers Tony Zito and Jeff Wenger and also to our hard working volunteers George & Jeanne Degrella, Carla Lindert, and Craig Stevenson. Special thanks also to all of our beautiful and talented models and to our photographers Raza Karim and Rob Hatrak and to photographer's assistant Jake Mauch. Sat, May 12 - Hooters at Sunset Station
Hooters Party with Girls, Wings'n Things! The “delightfully tacky, yet unrefined” sports bar and grill features “nearly world famous wings,” shrimp and oyster roasts. We enjoyed cocktails, appetizers, and dinner at posh Table 34, the newest hotspot on the east side of town, 600 E. Warm Springs (just west of the Hwy 215 Warm Springs exit) 702-263-0034. This very new restaurant near the airport is casual and hip. The Table 34 "New American-Eclectic" style is widely recognized as one of the best for off-Strip restaurants in town thanks to an imaginative menu and decor, gorgeous preparations, great breads, and reasonable prices. There was preferred parking for our cars, so we brought our Ferraris and other exotics. Many thanks to Pam and Patrick Simone for arranging this event. See the pics...

Fri-Sun - April 6-8, 2007 - Vegas Grand Prix
The Vegas Grand Prix featured the first Champ Car race of the season, Formula Atlantic and Historic open wheel races. It is a first for Vegas, and the city has signed for two more years with an option for two more after that. The route ran on Las Vegas city streets encircling the Fremont Street Experience through the streets of downtown on Easter weekend. Despite predictions to the contrary, traffic was light and convenient parking was readily available. Two hospitality suites were reserved by the Ferrari Club at the California Hotel located at 12 Ogden Street for Friday through Sunday. The rooms faced the street overtop of the chicane, near the spectator grandstand bridge. The views from the suites were excellent as we could see straight down into the cockpits as the drivers negotiated the tricky chicane. Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch and The Pahrump Valley Winery Restaurant were the destinations for our tour to Pahrump for highspeed track sessions and fun at the Winery. Spring Mountain held an open house over the weekend and invited the Ferrari Club to participate. We brought our Ferraris and other exotics and track cars, and got plenty of track time in 3 run groups. This event had something for everyone: a scenic drive through the mountains, as much track time as you wanted on the expanded road course, free lunch at the track, and some of us spent the afternoon wine tasting and dining at Pahrump's only 4 star restaurant. The track event was free for FCA members, and everyone had a great time. We also enjoyed a little impromptu airshow as owner John Morris exhibited his helicopter and airplane. Both Saturday and Sunday were part of the open house so a few people went back again on Sunday. Helmets were available for those who needed them. See the pics and videos...

Donations can be sent to: "Daniel Stevens", C/O Mountain Springs Saloon, HCR 33 Box 3325, Las Vegas, NV 89124. We met at the Starbucks on Charleston between Hualapai and Town Center at noon and drove west on Charleston past Red Rock to the end, and then turned west on Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Rd). Mt Springs Saloon is at the top of the mountain pass on the right. This "World Famous" Saloon is a rustic bar. We were joined in our spirited drive by DeShawn & Gary Shaw, Bev & Keith Evans, Debra Bieniek, Don Cramer & Marti Ashcraft, Jeff & Vicki Wenger, Reed Radosevich & Nicole, Denise & Karstin in a red NSX, another couple in a white Porsche, and another couple in a blue M3. Carla Lindert was assigned the task of organizing our event at April 7th Las Vegas Grand Prix and reserving a large suite for the club. DeShawn Shaw provided more detail on the May 4-6 Route 66 Drive and said we would participate in some if not all of the "Route 66 Fun Run". Sat-Sun - Jan 27-28, 2007 - Death Valley

We met at 8:00 AM at the last gas station on the way to Pahrump at the intersection of Hwy 160 (Blue Diamond Rd) and Hwy 159 (the road to Red Rock). This was a fun drive with one of our group testing his top speed, and only one stop by the state troopers along the way. It took way less than two hours at the speeds we were going at a time of the year when the daytime temperatures are very pleasant. The Furnace Creek Inn & Ranch Resort is situated in a lush oasis surrounded by the vast and arid desert of Death Valley National Park, California - just 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
